She was predeceased by: her parents, Russell Earl Summerville and Vivian Verneice Summerville (Padgett); and her husband Danny Lee Merkel. She is survived by: her children, Denise Bilskie (Steve), Russell Merkel (Danielle) and Janell Merkel; her grandsons, Adam Merkel and Collin Merkel (Madalynn); and her sister Eva Willis.

The family wishes any memorial donations in Janet's name be given to the Scotland Historical Society.
