He was predeceased by: his parents, Malcum Messer and Sophia Messer (Dobson); his son Wilmer Jr.; and his brother Paul Messer. He is survived by: his wife Helen Messer; his children, Annette Short (Joe) and Trish Patterson (Jerry); and his daughter-in-law Michelle Messer. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 19+ grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
