He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Shields and Hazel Shields (Tatlock); his wife Rose Marie Shields; his children, Russell O. Shields Jr. and Brenda Shields; and his siblings, Norman Shields, Claude Shields, Ellen Bidgood, Stella Woodsmall and Signa Chaskell.
He is survived by: his children, Riley Shields (Kalen), Beverly Shields (Lynn), Susan Collins and Sharon Clark (Richard). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
