He was predeceased by: his parents, Elisha Cress and Frances Muncy Cress; and his siblings, Hugh, Bill, Herbert, Marion, Herman, Larkin, Paul, Roy, Abner, Lloyd, Warren Cress, Ora Russell, Opal Stewart and Margaret Morrow.

He is survived by: his wife Collene Bailey Cress; his son Nick Cress (Julie) of Salem; and his grandchildren, Valorie Cress Moore and Sam Cress.

Memorial donations may be made to: St. Jude Children's Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.
