He was predeceased by: his brother Ken Wiersema (Pam); and his parents, Sidney Wiersema and Wilma Wiersema. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Wiersema; his sons, Timothy Wiersema (Tricia) and Matthew Wiersema (Denise); his grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca, Ben, Meg and Minna; his siblings, John Wiersema (Juanita), Dot Buikema (late Jay) and Glen Wiersema (Nancy); and his mother-in-law Mildred Meekma (late Harold).
