He was predeceased by: his wife Joan; and his son Tom. He is survived by: his former wife Charlotte Ann Ruggles (Thomas); his children, Claudia, Gregory and Gayle; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jim, Jeff Biela, Emily, Clair Ruggles, Paul David, Joel, Kyle and Cole Hughes; and his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jimmy, Charli and Joey Biela.
