He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Kenneth Ayer and Joy Ayer (Springstun) of Chrisney; his wife Donna Ayer (Harpenau); his sons, Kent Ayer (Amy) of Murfreesboro, TN and Brad Ayer (Kristina) of Winston Salem, NC; his grandchildren, Harrison, James, Mac, Kate, Thomas, Emily and Elijah; and his siblings, Joy Sue Zook (Jeff) of Chrisney and Brett Ayer of Evansville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spencer County Humane Society, Spencer County Public Library-Rockport, or St. Bernard's Catholic Church Endowment.
