He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Bitterling and Helen Bitterling (Conn); his daughter Emily Jo Bitterling; his brother Robert Ralph Bitterling; his stepsons, David Castleman and Donnie Castleman; and his son-in-law David Tuttle.
He is survived by: his wife Carol A. Bitterling (Townsend); his children, Jennifer Skinner (Mike) and Thomas Bitterling (Andrea); his stepchildren, Dennis Castleman (Trey) and Debra Tuttle; his granddaughter Alexandria Scott (Josiah); his great grandchildren, Brayden, Alivia, Callen Byers, Eres, Easton Tuttle, Wesley White and Destin David White; and his siblings, Lona Hoover and James Bitterling. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Riverview Community Church, Fulton County Animal Adoption and Education Center or Elara Caring Hospice Foundation.
