She was predeceased by: her brother-in-law Danny DeWeese. She is survived by: her parents, Pablo Avila and Maria Elena Fahl (Deluna); her siblings, Laura Avila of Fort Wayne, Alma DeWeese of Warren, Gloria May (Richard) of Fort Wayne and Miguel Avila of California; and her nieces and nephews, Uriah DeWeese, Sierra Holloway, Jadyn Holloway, Aiden DeWeese, Marciano Avila, Leo May and Barrett May.

“Paula was a passionate member of the FAITH IN INDIANA group that did several actions with her excellent help, to call out use of jail for ICE holds and deportation, to call out the overincarceration of mentally ill, and addicted, and to hold our Sheriff and authorities accountable to the people. She also participant in actions to point out health inequities and call for medical care for those S/SE Fort Wayne. She was an amazing activist for justice and the care of all. May she rest in power!”
