He was predeceased by: his parents, Denver Slater and Anna Slater; his son John Michael Slater; and his brother-in-law Geoffrey Foughty. He is survived by: his wife Penelope "Penny" Slater; his children, Mark Slater (Cathy), Kimberli Steckbeck (Tad), Sara Slater, Kirt Slater (Tammy), Kimberly High (Keith), Arden Clayton, Dawn Klinski (David) and Karen Jeffrey; and his siblings, Tom Slater (Judy) and Diane Foughty. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
