He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarance L. Poynter and Eaver J. Poynter (Howard); his wife Beverly Cooper; his son Richard Poynter; his siblings, Issac Pointer, Rodger D. Pointer, Teresa Pointer and Rosie Winsted; and his brother-in-law Clyce "Bud" Jones.
He is survived by: his children, Harland Poynter of Maine, Roberta Whitten of Maine, Rebecca Oliver (Steven) of Richmond, VA, John Poynter of Rensselaer, IN and Robert Poynter of Indianapolis, IN; his stepdaughters, Pamela Bourrell of Cedar Lake, IN, Laura Karasoff of Valparaiso, IN and Martha Hedger of North Judson, IN; and his sisters, Clarice Ann Jones (Clyce "Bud") of Madisonville, KY, Josephine Crow of Owensboro, KY, Elizabeth Mosley of Owensboro, KY and Susie Murphy of Plattville, AL.. He is also survived by thirty-two grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Community Church of Rensselaer.
