He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest DeGroot and Ethel Irene DeGroot (Sigman); his siblings, Ernie DeGroot, Anna DeGroot, Evelyn Crowden, Alma Shuster and Louise Ekstrom; his sons-in-law, Steve Fireheart and Melvin Florence; and his granddaughter April Hamilton.
He is survived by: his wife Billie DeGroot of Rensselaer; his daughters, Cynthia "Cindy" Carney (Bud) of Rensselaer and Toni Fireheart of Rensselaer; his grandchildren, Timothy Hamilton (Vanessa) of Pekin, IL and Megan Florence-Peterson (Andrew) of Lafayette; his stepgrandchildren, Meghan Santiago (Omar) of Chesterton, Jon Carney (Cassie) of Pensacola, FL, Robert Carney (Suzi) of Glenwood, IL and Jason Carney of Glenwood, IL; and his nieces and nephews, Jack Russell Terriers, Missie and Angel. He is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren.
