He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Coon and Hazel Coon (Kirby); and his sister Norma-Jean Cummings. He is survived by: his son Selwyn'Rork' Coon (Angela); his grandchildren, Rowan, Morganne and Drake; his sisters, Rosemary Salyers and Dolores Eaton (Rodney); and his brother-in-law Charles Cummings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Jasper County Public Library System and/or The Jasper County Veteran's Council.

“I never had the pleasure of meeting Coon in person, but corresponded with him through my sister, "Rene Sowder", who was a very dear friend oh his, so I knew first hand that he was a very good person. She always told me how thoughtful and kind he was. He will be very missed. May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.”
