He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Lanning and Janet Lanning (Alberts); and his great-niece Maddison. He is survived by: his brothers, Roger Lanning (Zenda) of Remington and John Guffey (Edwina) of Francesville; his nephews, Zachary Lanning (Jaclyn) of Remington, Noah Guffey, Joshua, Jacob and Jordan Ramsey; and his niece Sheanna Stouder (Ryan).
