He was predeceased by: his parents, Thurman Thomas and Hattie Thomas (Lyskowinski); his wife Sharon Sue Thomas (Conrad); his brothers, Sherman, Austin, Lawrence and Melvin Thomas; and his granddaughter Katrina Archibald.

He is survived by: his children, Kelly S. Archibald (Joseph), Anita L. Phillips (Billy) and Kirby G. Thomas; his grandchildren, Joseph Archibald II (Ramanda), Joshua D. Puckett, William C. Puckett (Kacey) and Tabitha M. Ealy (Jaramie); and his sister Sue Thomas-Taylor. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren.
