He is survived by: his children, James Walter Carter of Indiana, Charlene Carter Ray of Missouri, Sylvia Doerner of Indiana, Julia Lunn of Georgia and Sysine Cooper of Indiana; his brother Wayne Carter of Indiana; his significant other Debi Alumbaugh of Illinois; and his significant other's son Travis Alumbaugh. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
