He was predeceased by: his parents, Forest Shafer and Dorothy Blackard (Esche); and his sister Jane Williams. He is survived by: his wife Diane Lynch; his children, Scott Shafer (Kim) of Princeton and Julie Utley (Robert) of Belton, Texas; his grandchildren, Hannah Lett, Trent Shafer (Katie), Brooke Shafer, Kyeson Utley, Kadyn Utley (Skylar), Kabyl Utley, Kanyn Utley and Kambyl Utley; his great grandchild Bowen Michael Shafer; and his siblings, Barbara Thomas (Mike) of Newton, IL and Gene Shafer of Indonesia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
