He was predeceased by: his father George Akers; and his sister Donna Yeager. He is survived by: his wife Kristi Akers of Princeton; his children, Sarah Akers of Princeton and Michael Akers (Kara) of Princeton; his grandchildren, Ethan and Hadleigh; and his siblings, Debbie Wilson (Dean) of Clinton, IN, Doris Beasley (John) of Patoka and Jeff Akers of Princeton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
