He was predeceased by: his parents, George Cecil "Dutch" Fortner and Sarah Fortner (Shelby); his son Michael "Mike" Fortner; his grandson Michael Paul Fortner; and his siblings, DeElla Genevia Thompson, Roscoe Fortner, Cecil "Buster" Fortner, Kenneth Fortner, Juanita Askren and Hazel Wininger.
He is survived by: his children, William Fortner (Shirley), Jon Fortner (Christi), Karen Jenkins, Buddy Fortner and Sarah Evans (John); and his sisters, Goldie Perry and Charlotte Reed. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
