He was predeceased by: his parents, John Newton, Sr. and Lulu Newton (Lawhorn); and his siblings, George, Mary, Rex and John.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Newton; his children, Richard Newton (Nila), Nyoka Smith, Judy Eglan, Sandra Newton and Shannon Newton; his stepsons, George Watkins and Jeff Watkins (Virginia); and his siblings, Lillian Crump, Patty Willover, Robert Newton and Timmy Newton. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
