With solemn reverence, we commemorate Harvey L. Thornton Jr. of Portland, Indiana, whose life came to an end on February 9, 2025 at the age of 96, leaving behind cherished memories. He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey, Sr. Thornton and Hattie Thornton (Isenhart); his son-in-law Dale Ranly; his grandson Nathan Ranly; his sister Alletta Marie Wrightsman (Robert); and his in-laws, Virginia Boeckman, Harold Hemmelgarn and David Schoen (Patricia).
He is survived by: his wife Mary Thornton (Schoen); his children, Roger Thornton (Virginia) of Wapakoneta, Carol Ranly of Coldwater and Susan Reddoch (Joseph) of Fishers, Indiana; his grandchildren, Matthew Thornton (Tara), Elizabeth Byers (Josh), Lydia Elsea (Quentin), Hanna Bihn (Mitch), Krista Mulvihill (Sam), Alexandra Reddoch, Clarissa Reddoch and Gabriella Reddoch; his sister Barbara Thornton; and his in-laws, Eileen Barhorst (Carl), Janice Hemmelgarn, Harold Schoen (Theresa), Patricia Diller (Neil), James Schoen (Mary Ann), Doris Runyon (Doug), Linda Noll (Adrian), Richard Schoen (Doris), Marilyn Greenrose (Eric), Dan Schoen (Peg) and William Boeckman (Jane). He is also survived by his 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Friday, February 14th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 14th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Christ Chapel (2535 Wabash Rd, Fort Recovery, OH 45846). A burial will be held on Friday, February 14th 2025 at the Salamonia Cemetery (4140 Wood St, Portland, IN 47371).
Memorial contributions may be given to Christ Chapel or the Fort Recovery Community Foundation, in care of the Nathan Ranly Scholarship Fund.
