He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivan Read and Daisy Read (Stuber); his wife Barbara Ann Hendrix; and his children, Debra A Read and Robert.

He is survived by: his friend Jamie Baca; his sons, James L (Debra), Thomas I (Jacqueline) and David A (Shellie); his daughter-in-law Karen E Read; his sister Ellen Snyder (Bruce); his in-laws, Thomas Guy and Bernice Hendrix; and his siblings, Ruth Flosenzier (Vernon), Wilma Ambler (Rodney), Treva Nelson (Wendell), Lester Read (Susan) and Jay Read. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with their spouses.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to: Plymouth Missionary Church (1350 E Jefferson St, Plymouth, IN 46563) or Center for Hospice Care (1419 N Michigan St, Plymouth, IN 46563).
