She was predeceased by: her parents, Horace Lewellen and Lena Lewellen (Douglas) of Martinsville, IN.; her husbands, Lloyd Smith and Roy Harpool; and her grandson Nathan Fong.
She is survived by: her children, Merrietta Fong, Barbara Wells, Katherine and John; her stepchildren, Mark, Jeffrey, James and Julie Grimes; and her brother Douglas Lewellen. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
