He joined the Navy at age 17 during the Vietnam War. He served as a Boiler Technician and Fireman aboard the USS Bronstein, stationed in San Diego, CA. He attended Lincoln Trail College to be a machinist. He worked primarily in convenience store management and as a security guard before becoming disabled.
He married his late wife, Marilyn "Kay" McMahon on May 15, 1981 in Corpus Christi, TX and became the father to her four children, before having Robin. They were happily together for over 25 years. Bob then met the second love of his life, his later partner, Warren Brunner. They were together until Warren's passing in 2018. Bob loved spending time in nature, especially in the Rocky Mountain National Park and Lincoln Trail Illinois State Park. He enjoyed ginseng and mushroom hunting, trail walking around parks and many eventful camping trips with his family.
He loved to work on cars and do home repairs and projects. He loved sitting around the dining table, drinking coffee and chatting the evening away with family and friends. He could spend hours wandering through flea markets and thrift stores, looking for a diamond in the rough. He loved all cats and all cats loved him! He enjoyed cooking, watching Law & Order and dissecting the nightly news with his daughter Robin. Most of all, Bob loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them and spoiling his grandchildren.
He spent most of his last year living with Robin, Liz and Chance beating them at monopoly and sequence, spoiling the house full of cats and teaching Liz and Chance bad things like the 'why are you hitting yourself' game. He will be dearly missed by many. Services in honor of his life will be 5:00 PM Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home. Visitation will be after 3:00 PM on Saturday.
