He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Mathis and Lola Mathis (Mullnix); and his brothers, Orval and Harold. He is survived by: his brother Joseph "Bud" Mathis (Lois); his children, Caroline King, Theresa Lee (Larry) and Dale Mathis (Sandy); his grandchildren, Megan, Jonathan, Joshua, Lauren, Jake and Dylan; and his great grandchildren, Evelyn, Caidan, Noah and Houston.
