He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Eugene "Gene" Nelson and Mary Wolf; and his brother Ronald Nelson. He is survived by: his wife Linda; his children, Joni Saunders and Chris Nelson (Jill); his grandchildren, Ashlee Thompson, Kelsee Tucker (Jordan), Zoe Nelson and Chase Nelson; his great grandchildren, Graylan, Emma Thompson, Wesley "David" and Cameron Tucker; his sister Judi Snyder; his close friend Jerry Schaekel; and his brothers, Jeff Nelson (Joy) of Orlando and Mark Nelson of Danville, Indiana..

Visitation was held on Saturday, February 1st 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Eric MD Bell Funeral Home (220 N Maple St, Pittsboro, IN 46167). A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 1st 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, February 1st 2025 from 1:45 PM to 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Phi Beta Psi Sorority or Pittsboro Christian Church.
