He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Preston and Florence Sawyer (Derossett); and his siblings, Sol Sawyer, Dewey Sawyer, Walter Sawyer, Frank Sawyer, Belva Hinton and Beulah Hunter.
He is survived by: his wife Melba Sawyer of Pierceton; his children, Angela Sawyer (Eric Leonard) of Columbia City, Eric Sawyer (Tonya) of Fort Wayne, Valerie Dyer (Lincoln) of Kimmell and Daniel Taylor of Bryan, Ohio; his grandchildren, Audrey, Eliza, Preston, Grayson, Isaiah, Andrew, Isaac, Lilah, Violet, Willow, Anthony and Thea; and his siblings, Paul Sawyer (Jill Glair) of Jackson, Michigan and Arlene Griffin of Jackson, Michigan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, December 9th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home (600 Countryside Dr, Columbia City, IN 46725). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 10th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the DeMoney Grimes Funeral Home (600 Countryside Dr, Columbia City, IN 46725). A committal service was held on Wednesday, December 11th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Chapel Cemetery (8340 E Michigan Ave, Parma, MI 49269).
