He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry A. Balsbaugh and Ella F. Balsbaugh (Bowman); his wife Esther Balsbaugh (Bowman); and his brothers, Herbert Balsbaugh (Donazetta) and Elbert Balsbaugh (Mary Alice).

He is survived by: his children, Amy Balsbaugh (Bill Brenner) of Peru, Robert Balsbaugh Jr. (Carol) of Kokomo and Kevin Balsbaugh (Linda) of Peru; his grandchildren, Mary Kate Cook (Tyler) and Annemarie Balsbaugh; and his great grandchild Clay Cook.
