He was predeceased by: his parents, Donnelly Smyth and Bertha Smyth (Samples); his wife Laura Jean Smyth (Grant); his son Gregory A. Smyth (Tammy); his siblings, Ottis "Bren" Smyth and Ernest "Ned" Smyth; and his great grandchild Owen Hughes.

He is survived by: his daughter Joyce A. Hughes (Terry); his siblings, Audrey Merritt (Smyth), Alfred Smyth, Joliet, Ill and Bill Smyth; his daughter-in-law Karen Smyth (Butler); his grandchildren, Nina White (Tim), Richard Hughes (Missy), Samantha Smyth, Nichole Wilson (Tom), Carmel and Brandon Smyth (Laura); and his great grandchildren, Alexandra, Kate, Austin White, Wyatt, Maggie Hughes, Sloane, Taliya Smyth, Rhys, Finn Wilson, Bryce and Chloe Smyth.

Memorial contributions may be made to Peru Grace Brethren Church or the Miami County Military Rites.
