He was predeceased by: his parents, William H. Smith and Frances Place; and his son Michael J. Smith. He is survived by: his significant other Julia McElveen; his siblings, James Smith (Teri) of Peru and Jane Atkinson (Greg) of Kokomo; and his aunts, Iris Smith and Doris Smith.
