He was predeceased by: his wife Alma; and his son Terry. He is survived by: his children, Russ, Nancy and Beth (Bob); his daughter-in-law Kaye Schmitz of Pendleton; his grandchildren, Julie Shoemaker Imel (Tod Higbee) of Pendleton, Erick Schmitz of New Palestine, Dawn Schmitz Speedy of Ingalls, Brent Shoemaker (Sharon) of Rockville, MD, Tara Fox King (Shawn) of Pendleton, Todd Fox (Helen) of Johns Island, SC and Tony Fox (Heather) of Markleville; and his cousin Bob Walters of Huntington. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.
