He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Edwin and Katherine Thomas (Redd); his son Karl Michael Thomas; his sister Joann Howard; and his brother-in-law John Woolsey.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Ellen Thomas (Woolsey); his daughters, Kimmerly Cheever Jent (Dan) of New Castle and Angelia Cheever Turner (Scott) of Palmyra, Virginia; his grandchildren, Justin Thomas, Stephanie Thomas Fields, Karissa Thomas Tedrow (Alex), Maxx Turner, Skylar Turner Shaver, Jacob Thomas, Jordan Turner, Sarah Jent and Zacharey Thomas; and his sister-in-law Joyce Goad (Mike). He is also survived by eight great grandchildren; several nieces and several nephews.
