He was predeceased by: his mother Nannie Whalin; his son Kerry Whalin; and his siblings, James B. Whalin Jr., Wayne "Whity" Whalin and Lois Babcock.

He is survived by: his wife Marcella Ann Whalin (Dillard); and his children, Kathy, Kevin of Orleans and Brad of Pekin. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
