He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Mathers and Olive Giles Mathers; and his siblings, Mary Ann McGuire, Janella Sanders and Billy Mathers.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Lynn Burton Mathers; his sons, William "Bill" Mathers (Diann) of Orleans and Larry Mathers (Paula) of Orleans; and his grandchildren, Lori Mathers, Joe Mathers (Nikki), Jodi Smith (Josh), Jacob Mathers, Eli Mathers (Natalie), Alex Williams (Cara) and Andrew Williams (Brooke). He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Orleans United Methodist Church or Orleans Public Library.
