He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James D. Messer and Johnnie Messer (Fleming); his wife Marsha Messer of Orleans, IN; his siblings, Kathy Sherman, Lucy Osborne, Stephanie Shepard and Roger A. Messer; his sister-in-law Melba Porter; his children, Larry Walls (Nicole), Bobby Porter, Brian Cox (Monica), Amanda Curry (John), Marlanie A. Neace and Dawn Burngardner; his nieces, Austa Sheppard, Karah Sheppard, Danielle Osborne, Jessica Likens and Robyn Osborne; his close friends, Chris Ramsey, Donnie Anderson, Robert Finley and Jim Keadon; his brother-in-law Bill Porter; his son Benjamin D. Messer; and his brothers-in-law, Roy Sherman, Robert Osborne, Carl Porter, Glen Porter and Archie Porter. He was also cherished by eight grandchildren.
