He is survived by: his former wife Clara B. 'Jean' VanderMel (Geisler); his wife Jean VanderMel; his sons, Rick Steele (Linda) of Ionia, MI and Jeff VanderMel (Debbie) of Odon; his grandchildren, Carmen Ferguson (Tony), Aaron Steele (Jessica), Sarah Hammond (Justin), Hannah Gingerich (Nate) and Lilly VanderMel (Justin Fox); and his siblings, Phil VanderMel and Sandy VanderMel of Michigan.
