He is survived by: his wife Bernice Urbanowicz Shannon (Bonnie); his daughter Kathleen Kelly Shannon (Esq); his grandchildren, Ryan and Daniel Schmidt; his nephew Richard (JR); his great-nephew Connor; his sister Kay (Carl); and his nieces and nephews, John, Willie, Katie and Carla. He is also survived by his three daughters and devoted grandpa to his five grandsons.
He was humble about his instrumental contribution to the national group developing the bar code.
