He was predeceased by: his parents, John D. McCauley and Blanche McCauley (McClellan); his wife Elizabeth M. Ashton; and his siblings, Harold, Jack, Donald, Patrick McCauley and Eleanor Dorsett (McCauley).

He is survived by: his grandchildren, Dawn Lewis (Robert) and Mark McCauley (Josie). He is also survived by two great grandchildren.
