He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald Hempstead and Helen Hempstead (Decker); and his brother Frank Hempstead. He is survived by: his wife Linda Hempstead of North Vernon; his son Johnny Martinez; his daughter-in-law Buranda Martinez of Antelope, CA; his siblings, Dick Hempstead of New York and Terry Schrader of New York; his siblings-in-law, Nora Hernandez and Joey Hernandez; his grandson Elijah Martinez of Antelope, CA; his nieces, Rachel DeSantiago, Brittany Puderbaugh and Jessica Gallegos; and his stepmother-in-law Jean Deloris Willis of Edinburg.
