He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Piirto and Lempi Piirto (Tuomisto); his wife Carol Piirto; his son James Piirto; and his siblings, Aileen Taeger, Arne Piirto, Eleanor Hillson, Eino Piirto, Mae Lock, Jenny Yankovich, Reuban Piirto and John Piirto.
He is survived by: his children, Mary Ann Piirto of Tuscon, AZ and Michael Piirto (Susan) of Columbus; his siblings, Elaine Cheadle and Ray Piirto; his grandchildren, Courtney Cardinal (Mitchell) of Columbus and Cody Piirto of Tuscon, AZ; and his great grandchildren, Cameron and Madelynn Cardinal.
