He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Clifford and Ruth Aldine Pettit (Gunnion); his wife Mary Louise Wilson; and his brothers, John and Ralph Pettit.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Eugene Pettit, Jr. (Ruth Ann) of North Vernon, Timothy Wayne Pettit (Cecile) of Columbus and Marcha Ann Pettit of North Vernon; his siblings, Dale Pettit of Seymour and Marilyn Estell of Columbus; his grandchildren, Christina Dawn Napier (Derk) of Madison, Angela Kay Franklin (Scott) of Dickson, Andrew Pettit (Naomi) of Lewisport, Logan James Pettit (Rachael) of Caro and Tyler Scott Pettit of Columbus; and his stepgrandchildren, Christin Hayden (Patrick) of Indianapolis, Emily Darlage (Lee Pollert) of Seymour and Bryce Darlage of Columbus. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hoosier Hills Baptist Camp, Bethel Baptist Church and Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
