He was predeceased by: his father Edgar Raymond; and his son David Andrew Bowen. He is survived by: his sons, Charles Bowen (Jennifer) of Walkerton and James E. Bowen, Jr. of Walkerton; his grandchildren, Charles E. Bowen, Jr. (Jessica) of Walkerton, Emily Minder (Justin) of North Liberty, Amanda Bania (Tony) of Oak Lawn, IL and Alyssa McKibbin (Cole) of Elkhart; his great grandchildren, Adilynn, Cooper, Charleigh "Charles", Sadie, Calliope "The Squish", Madelynn "Punky", Brennan "Scooter", Ellyza, Nolan, Nolie Polie, Tugboat, Declan and Tater; and his brother John Bowen of Tifton, GA..

Because he lived serving others every day of his life, in lieu of flowers, the family requests any contributions in memory of James E. Bowen be donated to the Walkerton Christian Community Food Pantry, 625 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, IN 46574 or to any local charity that serves vulnerable people.
