He was predeceased by: his father Leslie Layton; his wife Doris Layton; his daughter Lisa Gayle; his stepdaughter Nancy Phelps; his siblings, Karen Morehead, Lola Morehead, Lucy Layton, Richard Layton and Joe Layton; and his grandson Daniel Shelton.
He is survived by: his close friend Donna Layton Grant (Jason) of Newburgh; his stepsons, Roddie Shelton (Karen) of Bowling Green and Eddie Shelton (Brenda) of Owensboro; his grandchildren, Tyler Grant of Newburgh and Grace Grant of Newburgh; his stepgrandchildren, Shawn Phelps (Melanie) of Owensboro, Shelley Howell (Patrick) of Mt. Vernon, Lee Shelton (Crystal) of Atlanta, Jason Shelton (Whitney) of Bowling Green, Chuck Knisley, David Shelton (Missy) of Newburgh and Matt Shelton (Rhonda) of Owensboro; his sister Ida Stringer; and his caregiver Janet Doyle. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
