He was predeceased by: his brothers, Robin Dear and Stanley Martin Dear; and his great-niece Breahanna Lynch. He is survived by: his parents, Michael Gibson (Cheryl) of Brandenburg, KY and Brenda Carpenter (Charles) of Milltown, Indiana; his nephew Jacob Dear; his wife Mary Gibson (Mattingly) of New Salisbury, Indiana; his stepchildren, Mary "Pappy" Pierce of Marengo, Scott Pierce (Belinda) of Marengo, Jason Pierce of New Salisbury, Veronica Tillery (Brian) of New Salisbury and Christine Cole (James) of Scottsburg, Indiana; and his siblings, Jeanie Roppel (Tim) of Charlestown, Indiana, Jeff Dear (Jama) of Milltown, Charles Carpenter of Marengo, John Carpenter of Bunker Hill, Indiana and Casey Carpenter of Carlisle. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and his faithful canine companion.
