He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Ortel and Bessie Ortel (Bruce); his wife Marlis J. Kottlowski Ortel; the mother of his children Shirley Blankenbaker; and his siblings, Elmer, Audrey, Melvin and Thomas.
He is survived by: his children, Thomas Ortel (Karen Baker), Tonia Ortel Chisham and Terry Ortel; his grandchildren, Jason Chisham, Justin Chisham, Michael Ortel (Meredith), Matthew Ortel (Meghan) and Alyssa Matthews (Russell); and his great grandchildren, Steven, Julie, Ava, Otis, Winston and Jack. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved his former wife's (Marlis) children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
