He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Messmann and Artie Messmann (Kerns); his wife Alice; his son Grant Messmann; his daughter-in-law Beverly Messmann; and his siblings, Paul, William, Norville, Charles Messmann, Lavina Pabst, Helen Rekeweg, Edna Roemke, Delores Ort and Marilyn Gilbert.
He is survived by: his children, Gregory Messmann (Marianne), Gary Messmann of Fort Wayne and Gina Graft (Kim) of Ossian; his daughter-in-law Linda Messmann-Coe of Fort Wayne; and his grandchildren, Nicole Walter, Rebecca VanSpankeren, Christopher Messmann, Katy Caruso, Mark Messmann, Michael Messmann, Luke Messmann, Jessi Artimé, Matt Graft and Korah DeArmond. He is also survived by 27 great grandchildren.
