He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Smith and Evelyn Smith. He is survived by: his wife Linda Smith; his sons, Tom Smith of Fort Wayne and Michael Smith of Fort Wayne; and his sister Diane Watson of Monticello, KY.. He is also survived by three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
