He was predeceased by: his parents, James Smith and Evelyn Smith (Young); and his sister Louise Clark. He is survived by: his stepdaughters, Rosetta Burns and Jaynine Cave; and his brothers, Tom Smith, Don Smith (Pat) and Jim Smith.

Preferred memorials are to Humane Fort Wayne.
