He was predeceased by: his parents, James, Sr. and Francis Shea; his grandson Camden Hancock; his son Jonathon Shea; and his brother-in-law Jon Darren Cox.

He is survived by: his wife Deborah; his children, Jessica Ruddell, James III and Dyke Hancock (Nicole); his sister Nancy Schulze; his daughter Brooke Roberts (David); his grandchildren, Ryley Hancock, Briana Ruddell and Ryan Ruddell, Jr.; his sister Dinah Moore; and his brother-in-law Duane Cox (Tawana). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
