He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Schmitt and Audrey Schmitt (Harl); his wife Mary Louise Schmitt (Schulte); and his brother Donald J. Schmitt, Sr.. He is survived by: his children, Jane Hape (Danny, Sr.) of Evansville, Patricia Dewig (Joseph) of Mt. Vernon, Sandy Phelps (Thomas) of Mt. Vernon, Samuel Schmitt (Cheryl) of Mt. Vernon and Thomas Schmitt (Jodie) of Kokomo, IN; and his grandchildren, April Boeke, Summer Wilderman, Clay Schmitt, Jason, Ryan, Nathan, Luke Dewig, Shelby Phelps, Jordan Phelps and Taylor Schmitt.
